The American Revolution The British Tighten Controls
The American Revolution: The British Tighten Controls BY CASEY L. PETTITT San Joaquin Delta College November 21, 2014 History 017A: History of the United States Dr. Wesley Swanson The American Revolution was far from being the first conflict to occur on the soil of the New World. There were multiple skirmishes, battles, and official wars fought in the territory that resulted in severe bloodshed before the idea of the American Revolution was even conceived. One of the most significant of these wars was the French and Indian War or as it was known in Europe, the Seven Yearsââ¬â¢ War. At its conclusion in 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed. The English received a substantial amount of new land for the Empire (94). However, with the acquisition of new land and a significant amount of debt from the extensive war efforts, the British government had to reevaluate many of their policies (95-96). After the Treaty of Paris of 1763, the British were confident in their mastery of North America. However by attempting to tighten their control over their American colonies they initiated a series of poorly thought out programs and policies which resulted in a disastrou s rebellion. One of the first policies that the British government set into place in the American colonies was the Proclamation of 1763. The proclamation ordered that ââ¬Å"no settlers were to cross the Appalachian divideâ⬠(100). One of the major issues that the colonists faced were conflicts with the localShow MoreRelatedCompare and Contrast He American and British Views Regarding the French and Indian War.604 Words à |à 3 Pagesand Native American allies. Cloud Computing for Internet Services- myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about theCloud Computing for Internet Services and Applications. Answer: The various risks that are evident due to the migration of the database, IaaS infrastructure and the communication of the company are discussed in this portion. Risks in database: The various cloud related risks that are evident due to the migration of the database is discussed in this portion. In case of cloud feature installations, the various applications installed in the system will need to be installed in the cloud architecture. In some cases, these applications may show license problems. In cases like this, the business operations will be affected due to the license risks. In addition, as the cloud features are being provided by the cloud vendors, the organization needs to comply with their requirements (Garrison, Kim Wakefield, 2012). Any changes to the system are to be done after contacting with these vendors. This reduces the transparency of the system with respect to the organization involved. Risks in IaaS infrastructure: The main risks to the IaaS infrastructures due to the migration of the database are discussed in this section. The main risks are the misconfiguration, shadow-IT and vulnerabilities. The first risk to be discussed is the misconfiguration in the infrastructure. The presence of existing problems in the system is to be referenced to fight these vulnerabilities. For addressing such requirements, the scanning of the whole system is to be referenced. This includes the scan of the whole system by using the IaaS APIs. These are used to scan the whole database. These data are used to compare with the existing templates of the API scanning (Garrison, Kim Wakefield, 2012). These templates are complied with the universal standards. The data are then to be applied for addressing the risks in the infrastructure. In addition, the presence of monitoring features to scan the status of the system is also to be done for detecting any errors present in the system. Vulnerability is another risk that is present in the infrastructure. This is to be addressed by not only the vendors of the cloud solutions but also the organization. The main process to be involved is the installation of applications for automated scanning procedures and workload security management. The last risk in the infrastructure is the presence of shadow-IT features (Jadeja Modi, 2012). This mainly consists of ghost servers, dormant storages and orphan storage. The ghost server generally means the presence of servers which can still perform efficiently. However, these servers are unused for a long time. Similarly, the orphan servers are the presence of those servers that are also not used for a long time and are not in good conditions with respect to operations. Moreover, when servers are replaced by the new ones, they remain in the infrastructures. These are the dormant resources. All these poses great risks to the organizations as these storages still consist of data. These can be used to get access to these data unethically. Risks in communication between the organization and database: The main risks in the communications among the organization and the cloud vendor are the concerns in privacy and availability of data. As the organization needs to update the vendor regarding any organizational changes, the vendor will have access to all the data of the organization. This raises a security and privacy concern as the organization concerned may not have ease of mind in doing businesses (Hashizume et al., 2013). This also provides an ethical risks if the cloud vendor unethically analyses their data. The presence of internet access is a requirement in cloud architecture. As the information to be updated in the cloud infrastructure can only be done by the presence of internet, the risks due to such requirements is great. In case an organization is facing threats in the system, they need to close the cloud application to mitigate the threats. In case of internet absence, the organization will not be able to access the system which will lead to grave impacts in the system. This section is concerned with the application of the access protection features in different parameters of the cloud solutions. IaaS infrastructure: The access to the IaaS infrastructure can only be provided by utilizing the four different parameters. These include the internet access, physical access, APIs and web console. The physical access is provided by the cloud vendors. The organization needs to review the security features and protocols followed by the cloud vendors. Any problems in their security can lead to the business failure as well (Jadeja Modi, 2012). Internet access can be secured by the application of various cloud related solutions. These include the applications of tighter security measures. The most commercially available solutions are the one provided by Cloud Sigma. The main aim of these solutions is the implementation of firewall setups that could be used for neglecting access by third-parties. In case of the APIs and web-console, tighter security can be applied by the adoption of security protocols. Ms SQL Server 2012 R2 cloud instance: The presence of user privileged access to the instance of the server is to be emphasized for the IaaS cloud consumers corporate network. This can be done by the application of access protocols like SSHv2 or TLS/SSL. The main emphasis of these uses will be based on the use of multi-factor authentication. In addition, the use of public key certificate is also to be emphasized for addressing these requirements. Cloud infrastructure: The access to the cloud infrastructure by using the browser is to be minimized. The main reason is that they are prone to injection attacks. In addition, the presence of security tools is also needed in the VMs to reduce the possibilities of back door intrusion and information leak (Jadeja Modi, 2012). Furthermore, the antivirus programs must also be used for removing the malwares from the system. Cloud backup and restore: The organization needs to review the security features and protocols followed by the cloud vendors. Any problems in their security can lead to the business failure as well. This requires the need for encrypting the data to be backed up (Khan et al., 2013). In such cases the data will not be easily accessed. Furthermore, the presence of offline storage of the decrypting key is also required. References: Garrison, G., Kim, S., Wakefield, R. L. (2012). The Three Major Security Threats in Healthcare free essay sample
Nowadays Doctors and Nurses has several mobile devices in order to provide patient care. We will write a custom essay sample on The Three Major Security Threats in Healthcare or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Virtualization is very important in providing adequate and affordable patient care in the rural health industry. Attempts to breach security happen every day in our agency. Preventing cyber-attacks and security breaches is a never ending battle in network security. Introduction I am an IT professional focusing on network security in the healthcare industry. Every day we monitor the network for phishing/pharming, DoS attacks, Trojans, and other security breaches. Mobile Devices, virtualization and lackadaisical end-users are the biggest threats to network security. Mobile Devices An article in GCN says it best, ââ¬Å"Mobile devices are ubiquitous in todays society, and the number and types of devices used by physicians, nurses, clinicians, specialists, administrators and staff ââ¬â as well as patients and visitors ââ¬â is growing at healthcare agencies across the country.â⬠Nowadays Doctors and Nurses has several mobile devices in order to provide patient care. Cellphones, laptops, and tablets are of the norm. I canââ¬â¢t remember the last time I had a doctorââ¬â¢s visit and the doctor didnââ¬â¢t update my chart using a laptop or tablet. All of these wireless devices make the network vulnerable. In my opinion wireless security has always been the hardest part of the network to protect because there isnââ¬â¢t a physical connection that can be monitored. End-users donââ¬â¢t always use secure passwords or they share passwords. At our agency an employee is not allowed to bring in a mobile device other than a personal cellphone to the workplace in order to reduce security breaches. ââ¬Å"The Office of Management and Budget, Personal Identity Verification cards had been issued to 3.75 million federal employees as of Dec. 1, 2010, or 80 percent of the government workforce, and to 76 percent of contractors who are eligible to use the cards, about 885,000 contractors.â⬠My agency uses Personal Identity Verification or PIV cards to gain access to wired devices on the network unfortunately that is not the case for wireless devices. Although we have two-party authentication in place for all devices it would be nice to have tertiary layer such as a smart card or PIV card for wireless devices. I donââ¬â¢t foresee a solution happening for a few years due to the cost in an already financially burdened healthcare system. It is true that ââ¬Å"a reliance on off-the-shelf products means that there will be no PIV card readers available for workers signing on to check e-mail or read a document while out of the office.â⬠Virtualization The agency I work for specializes in rural healthcare therefore often they donââ¬â¢t have the equipment or the staffing to complete tasks such as reading X-rays, providing behavioral health etc. Over the years we have had to implement Telehealth in order to meet these requirements. A patient in rural Minnesota may have his or her x-rays read by a physician in Billings, Montana. An individual may have weekly counseling sessions with a psychiatrist that is 500 miles away. Nowadays most healthcare companies use electronic health records to access patient information. Denial of Service DoS attacks happen when a hacker manages to overload a server to render it useless. A DoS attack is prevalent and damaging in virtualized environments and can preventsthe physicians and nurses from retrieving a patientââ¬â¢s information. If they are unable to access patient history to include what medications they are on or what they may be allergic to etc then they are unable to provide or give the wrong patient care which could be deadly. Therefore virtualization is very important in providing adequate and affordable patient care in the rural health industry. End-Users Our agency has mandatory computer security and security training every year in an effort to preempt attacks on the network. This mandatory training is required to be taken by every employee including the IT department. Attempts to breach security happen every day in our agency. Although we have security measures in place we have to constantly educate our end users on how to handle suspicious activity, password safety etc. Unfortunately there is always that one person that opens a suspicious email or shares their password or loses their token or PIV card and they donââ¬â¢t report it. This makes the network vulnerable. I have always believed that end users are a companyââ¬â¢s biggest security risk. Allowing end users to access social media, personal email etc can allow for viruses to infect PCââ¬â¢s serverââ¬â¢s etc. Once a virus is in the network it will spread like wildfire which will cripple the network. Prevention We use a lot of tools to constantly monitor the network to prevent DoS attacks, viruses, packet sniffing, phishing etc. We have implemented Websense as a means of policing what websites an end-user can surf to. We have firewalls in place to prevent end-users as well as outsiders from having access to IP ranges on our network as well as outside the network. We use access list on the routers as another layer of protection. We have penetration testers in our department whose only purpose is to look for packet sniffing and holes in the network. We have another group that monitorââ¬â¢s suspicious activity on the network such as a spike in bandwidth or an IP that is sending or receiving a large amount of information for specific length of time. Preventing cyber-attacks and security breaches is a never ending battle in network security. Conclusion Healthcare news states that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Healthcare is driving the need for network security solutions that can cover multiple types of devices and infrastructure components.â⬠Although we are largely driven by the Federal Communications Commission and HIPPAA my department is constantly implementing new devices and measures to secure the network and protect patient and employee information. This takes constant training and a lot of due diligence to accomplish that goal. References Are mobile devices already making PIV cards obsolete? Parallelism in Writing for English Learners
Parallelism in Writing for English Learners Parallelism takes place when two similar phrases are joined to make just one sentence. For example: Tom plays the piano.Tom plays the violin.Parallelism Tom plays the piano and the violin. This is just a simple example. There are many types of parallelism and the important point to remember is that both forms must be the same. In other words, if you have two parallel verb structures the tenses must be the same. For example: Peter works hard and plays hard. NOT Peter works hard and play hard. Single Word Parallel Structures Both of the previous examples are single word parallel structures. Here is an overview of single word parallel structures: Nouns Jack eats fish and chicken.Sarah writes poetry and short stories. Verbs Our neighbors have moved and have sold their house. My sister walks or rides her bike to work. Adjectives The class is not only fun but also helpful. She is not only strong but also fast. Adverbs Peter drives quickly and aggressively. They work carefully and effectively. Phrase Parallel Structures Parallelism can also take place with phrases. This type of parallel structure can be more difficult to recognize as the sentences are more complex. Here are some examples: Having fun is as important as working hard. She advised me to get some sleep and take some time off work. Here are phrase parallel structures. Each type of structure includes a note about important points/problems to take into consideration. Noun Phrases Work is as necessary as play.Apples are as good for you as oranges. NOTE: Noun phrases are either singular or plural in nature and impersonal (it or they). Verb Phrases As soon as I arrive home, I put on my shoes and go for a run. Before she leaves for work, she usually eats breakfast and has a cup of coffee. NOTE: All verbs in a verb phrase with parallel structure have the same conjugation. Adverbial Phrases Peter and Tim will probably arrive in less than an hour and in time for the meeting. They want more time off in the summer and on weekends. (at weekends in British English) NOTE: An adverbial phrase is made up of more than one word which functions as an adverb. In this case, in less than an hour and in time expresses when something is going to happen. Gerund Phrases He enjoys playing tennis and working out. They dont mind waiting and talking while you get ready. NOTE: Make sure not to mix the infinitive (to do) and the gerund (doing) in parallel structures! Infinitive Phrases Jackson hopes to visit his parents and see his old friends when he goes home. She advised me to find some new friends and forget about the event. NOTE: Make sure not to mix the infinitive (to do) and the gerund (doing) in parallel structures! Participial Phrases Discovering her financial losses and not knowing enough about the current market, she decided to stop investing.Driving through the German countryside and speaking to the people, Mark began to understand the culture better. NOTE: This is a rather complex structure. Notice how a comma is placed after the parallel structure participial phrases that introduce the sentences. Clause Parallel Structures Finally, clauses can also be used to make parallel structures. In this case, remember that you must use full clause structure (subject verb objects) and that the subjects of BOTH clauses will be the same. This causes the verb conjugation to remain the same in both clauses. Noun Clauses She said that she was having fun but not that she was meeting people.Peter felt that he had made an excellent deal and that he had bought a masterpiece. Adjective Clauses She is a woman who is intelligent and, at the same time, who seems distracted. This is a product that is easy to use and that is simple to clean. Adverb Clauses As he didnt understand and because he refused to try, they let him go.Since it was easy to use and because it was cheap, it sold very well.

Socially constructed (i.e. ideologies and mindsets) nature of the Essay
Socially constructed (i.e. ideologies and mindsets) nature of the current economic recession - Essay Example One of the biggest problems the U.K. economy is facing is the rise in the unemployment rate. The current unemployment rate of the United Kingdom is 7.9%. The unemployment epidemic is occurring throughout the entire world. There are approximately 115 nations that have an unemployment rate that is as high or worst than the United Kingdom with Zimbabwe being the worst victim with an astronomical unemployment rate of 95% (Cia, 2011). Zimbabwe is also facing hyperinflation. When people donââ¬â¢t have a job there are not able to cover their living expenses. There are other problems the British economy is facing. There are millions of British people living in extreme poverty. For instance the amount of homeless people is huge. There are approximately 400,000 people in the United Kingdom that do not have a roof over their heads. Extreme poverty is not just occurring in emerging economies. It is also a reality of a developed nation such as the United Kingdom. These figures do not make sens e to me since the gross domestic product per capita in the United Kingdom is one of the highest in the world at ?22,241 (CultureGrams, 2011). The government has not done an adequate job to ensure British wealth is distributed more evenly. The government should raise the tax rates to 50% for any person that has an income above ?1,000,000 a year; also people who make between ?200,000 and ?999,999 should pay a higher rate of between 40-45%. The added revenues should be used to help out the poor people in the United Kingdom. The world has become a harsher place to live for underdeveloped countries since the global recession. More than half the worldââ¬â¢s population is living with a daily income of ?1.60. The global recession hurt the developed countries which caused a chain reaction that lowered the donation money and other economic assistance that underdeveloped countries used to receive from the private citizens and governmental institutions of developed countries around the world . The United Kingdom is also facing other economic issues that are hurting the quality of life of the population. The prices of basic need items such as food and medicine are on the rise. When British citizens go to the supermarket or grocery stores they are paying more money to buy vegetables, milk, bread, and meats among other food products. The poor and lower middle class in the United Kingdom are paying the consequences of food inflation. The rise in food prices has affected the global population severely. Things have gotten so bad that nearly 25,000 people are dying everyday of hunger and hunger related causes (Poverty, 2011). The children are the biggest victims of this epidemic since there is nearly one billion children globally that are suffering from malnutrition. Another sector that is facing major inflationary forces is healthcare. The annual cost of healthcare per capita in the United Kingdom is ?1483. The added money that the government is spending in healthcare cost du e to inflation could be used more effectively to help the poor people living in the United Kingdom A factor that is lowering the quality of life of British people is the rising cost of fuel. Gasoline is necessary to be able commute to work and to get from one place to another. The price of gasoline has gone down a little in 2011, but it is still way too expensive. The United Nations should impose

History and Political Science - Coursework Example Both a stop and an arrest are considered ââ¬Å"seizures regulated by the Fourth Amendmentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"must be justified by reasonable suspicion of criminal activity on the part of the detaineeâ⬠before they can be enacted (Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 233). Furthermore, the intensity and scope of a seizure determines the transformation of a stop to an arrest (Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 233). A stop is considered a temporary detention, while an arrest is more of a long-term detention. ... On the contrary, Terry recognized that it may be the essence of good police work to adopt an immediate response. (Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 235) A reasonable suspicion for a stop or a probable cause for an arrest depends on the ââ¬Å"totality of the circumstancesâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 235). While ââ¬Å"an anonymous tip, with nothing else, has been held to lack sufficient reliability to establish the reasonable suspicion for a...stopâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 235), other circumstances, such as ââ¬Å"flight from policeâ⬠may be a ââ¬Å"relevant factor overallâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 235). This should be held in view of ââ¬Å"the totality of the circumstancesâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 235). One good example given is when a person suddenly fled at the sight of the police in a high-criminal area. While it may automatically indicate any wrongdoing of the part of the person who fled, the overall circumstances provide the police reasonable suspicion . When evidences are found on the person, then there will be a probable cause for an arrest (Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 236-7). How much force can be used by an officer when executing an arrest? How is it determined? => During seizures such as an arrest or a stop, ââ¬Å"Terry allows officers to take all necessary steps to protect themselves if the circumstances reasonably warrant such measuresâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 238). If the situation requires such actions, the police officer may 1) ââ¬Å"draw their weapons,â⬠2) ââ¬Å"have a reasonable number of backup officers,â⬠and; 3) ââ¬Å"handcuff individuals or place them in the back of a squad carâ⬠(Harr, Hess, and Orthmann 238). However, sometimes, even just a ââ¬Å"frisk [is enough] protective actionâ⬠during seizures (Harr, Hess, and

Film Analysis Update Essay Example for Free
Film Analysis Update Essay I have selected the film ââ¬Å"Elizabeth: the Golden Ageâ⬠because I became extremely fascinated on why of all the monarchs who have ruled England, she is the monarch that has been included in various forms of literature as well as having an era in Englandââ¬â¢s history named after her. After selecting the film for this paper, I first watched the entire movie without pausing and just noting down scenes that I considered as the most important. After that I watched the film again carefully so much so that I would pause the film once in a while in order to note down important parts of the film. My next step was to go to the Library and began to study the book ââ¬Å"Englandââ¬â¢s Elizabeth: an Afterlife in Fame and Fantasyâ⬠by Michael Dobson and Nicola J. Watson in order to get a better understanding how authors, poets and filmmakers have depicted Queen Elizabeth I in various forms of literature and productions. The best resource materials I came across were ââ¬Å"Behind the Mask: the Life of Queen Elizabeth Iâ⬠by Jane Rush Thomas since it gave a very objective outlook on the life of Queen Elizabeth I. In the paper, the summary of the film would first be presented on the paper followed by the presentation of information from resource materials which would either support or challenge certain scenes in the movie, specifically the role of Mary Stuart in the attempted assassination of Queen Elizabeth I and the war between Spain and England. From there a comparison on the accuracy of the depiction of this chapter in the life of Queen Elizabeth I in the film will be analyzed since there were some events shown in the film that appear to contradict historical documentations.
